KITCHEN ACADEMY OPENS SEATTLE-AREA LOCATION
Campus Features Accelerated Program, Hosts Open House

SEATTLE (July 31, 2008) - Kitchen Academy, a professional cooking school, has launched its Seattle-area location and will host an open house on Aug. 26 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The culinary school, which is owned by Career Education Corporation, is distinguished by its proprietary Accelerated Training System™ which allows a student to finish a program in as little as 30 weeks. From the first day, the course work is 100-percent hands-on, in kitchens outfitted with top-notch cooking equipment and LCD monitors that display the chef's cooking demonstration of the day. Leading the Seattle school is Bruce Edwards, president, and Chef Gene Fritz, director of education.

Classes start eight times a year, with morning, noon and evening tracks to provide the most flexibility for the student. Currently, students can receive a Professional Culinary Arts diploma. Kitchen Academy also offers one-on-one job placement guidance through its Career Services Department.

"I believe we're meeting not only the needs of students who have a passion for culinary arts, but bringing new options and possibilities to the greater Seattle community," Edwards said. "Graduates of our program look forward to the opportunity to work within the regional restaurant community."

Edwards is a 12-year resident of the Northwest and most recently, director of food and beverage at the award-winning Embassy Suites Hotel at the Portland International Airport. He received his degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from Oklahoma State University. He has held positions, including director of food and beverage at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Portland; general manager of the Red Lion Restaurants at the Portland International Airport; and director of food and beverage, Marriott International Hotels in Austin and Houston.

Chef Fritz is a native of the Seattle area and formerly served as executive chef and culinary educator at Washington State University, where he developed the student-operated restaurant concept. He received a degree from the Culinary Institute of America and has cooked at Salish Lodge. He has been an instructor for the Colorado State University Restaurant and Resort Management Program, as well as a culinary operations director at the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University in Denver.
